Report Illegal Dumping
Illegal dumping is the depositing of refuse materials at any site that is not an approved solid waste facility. It includes not only the dumping of trash, but also the dumping of chemicals, pesticides, used automotive fluids and other pollutants into storm drains, streams and on land.
Illegal dumping is becoming an increasing problem in the Takoma Branch. The recurring hotsposts are Takoma Branch at Ray Road and Just over the guardrail on New Hampshire Avenue north of Ray Road.
Report any act of illegal dumping or suspicious behavior to the appropriate jurisdiction. Be certain to record the vehicle license plate number, a description of the vehicle and person(s) involved, and the date, time and location of the incident. In Prince George’s County contact the Environmental Services Division at 301-883-3311. To report an incident occurring in Montgomery County call the Dept. of Environmental Protection's Illegal Dumping Hotline at 240-777-3867. In the District report illegal activities to the Mayor's Citywide Call Center at 202-727-1000.
Prince George’s County, Montgomery County and the District all pick up bulk trash free of charge. To schedule a pickup in Prince George’s County call (301) 952-7600. Each residential property receiving Montgomery County-provided trash collection is entitled to 5 bulk collections per calendar year for certain types of miscellaneous and/or bulky household trash. To schedule a pickup make a request online at http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov or call 240-777-6410 no later than 11:00 a.m. on the business day before your trash collection day. To schedule a pickup in the Dristrict call the Mayor's Citywide Call Center at (202) 727-1000.
